Here is how far we have come with Super Bowl ads. In 1984, when Steve Jobs was presented with a potential Super Bowl ad, he had no idea what the term even meant. The Apple Super Bowl ad, turned out to be the one of the best of all time.

A very reliable source of mine from the advertising industry in New York City, told me this morning she thinks that GoDaddy, Old Spice, SodaStream, Pepsi and Toyota, will get the biggest bang for the buck from their upcoming Super Bowl commercials. The commercials in the past few years have not had the appeal as when it was a hot topic in the 1990s, so perhaps this will be the year of comeback commercials.

It is official, after 17 years with Adidas, Notre Dame has signed a 10 year deal with Under Armour to become their official apparel supplier. Notre Dame says this will be the most lucrative deal in college sports. In 2005, Notre Dame signed a $60 million extension with Adidas. The new UA deal will take affect in 2014-15.

Home of this year's Super Bowl, MetLife Stadium in New Jersey is the largest venue for the Super Bowl, since the 2011 game. MetLife seats 83,000. And a little tidbit, of course it will be the first Super Bowl championship for the Seahawks if they win, but did you know that in 1917, the Seattle Metropolitans were the first non-Amercian team to win hockey's Stanley Cup.

Interesting to note that CBS Sports Chairman Sean McManus, one of the most respected people in the TV business, has often been quoted lately as saying nothing lately on TV comes close to matching the power of the NFL. Of course he is correct, the NFL continues to smash all ratings' records for TV and beyond. A powerful product that all networks clamor for indeed.

The ACC has asked the U of Maryland for $52.3 million, as an exit fee for the Terps going to the Big Ten. And just last night, the state of Maryland's attorney general, Douglas Gansler had filed a lawsuit against the ACC for $157 million, citing antitrust violations as part of the suit. Will anyone pay anything when it is all said and done? Probably not.

The iconic Chicago Bulls of the NBA, have shown an increase in their TV rating so far this year, despite playing many games without their super-star guard Derrick Rose. Ratings are up 3 percent this year, but down slightly from two years past when the Bulls recorded their highest TV ratings since Michael Jordan was on the team.
The Bulls lead the NBA this year in paid attendance, with an average of 21,713, which is 3.8 percent above the United Center's capacity. A great basketball city.
