Marvin Beaverman

Marvin Beaverman is the nom de plume for Marvin Yonamine. Marvin is one of the biggest Beaver fans I know. Marvin's dad went to Oregon State, his wife did too, and their three kids are all Beavers. Marvin volunteers on the island as an alumni representative for Oregon State. I count Marvin as my friend and one of the good guys.

Marvin hails from Hawaii.

Marvin has one amazing story. He has worn Beaver gear every single day since January 1, 2001. You can read more about this here is a story by Josh Worden:

$71 million in outside legal costs from 2014-2017, it is time to reboot the NCAA

Per this link:

https://twitter.com/BryanDFischer/status/839530764370771968

The NCAA spent $71 million dollars in outside legal costs from 2014-2016. Why? Why can't more dollars be spent on the athletes that are generating the revenue?

The NCAA took in almost a billion dollars in  revenue per their 2016 fiscal year audited financial statements. Let that sink in for a minute.

A direct link to the USA Today story is here:

http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/college/2017/03/07/ncaa-incurred-14-billion-in-expenses-in-2016/98856520/

This is just one side to the story, but I think it is a point worth questioning.

As tuition goes up, #goducks pay to make a coach go away

How much did David Reaves, former co-offensive coordinator and tight ends coach that Willie Taggart hired at the University of Oregon make? Well, according to documents received by the the Eugene newspaper the Register Guard, "$3,750 for 26 hours of work, plus a payment of $60,000". That is $144.23 per hour worked, plus the school has provided no documentation for the lump sum payment.

The $60,000 lump sum payment could represent 416 hours of pay, based on the hourly rate calculated above.

So, let's see if I have this right. Tuition is going up $945/year in Eugene, but athletics can afford to pay $144.23 an hour plus $60,000, because you have been accused of a crime (DUII) but not convicted, and will likely be facing a diversion program that will mean a dismissal of the charges.

I think it was a poor decision by Coach Taggart to get rid of Coach Reeves. He has been convicted of no crime, he quit a job across the country to take this job, and even the arrest sounded strange. Another coach was in the car with Coach Reeves who too is no longer with the program (Jimmie Dougherty).

How do you justify raising tuition while doing handouts like this? I am asking you U of O president Michael Schill, Rob Mullens, and Tobin Klinger. I don't expect an answer from any of these people, but I hope that the students rise up and protest this decision.

The $60K is a drop in the bucket compared to the $4,000,000 of tuition dollars that goes to athletics each year:

Coach Willie Taggart has had a number of controversies. It seems like every week something new pops up. I honestly wonder if Willie will actually coach a game.

One Vote For Magic

By Gregory Crawford @wchoops

If Magic Johnson wants to run the basketball side of the Lakers, then let him do it. In my 6 decades of watching and studying the NBA, Magic was the greatest competitor and the greatest player ever in basketball, yes you read that right.

********************************************

I am sorry, but when Gregg Popovich goes political on us, it does zero for me. If Popovich is so high and mighty, then he needs to play his stars when fans and families pay big money to watch them.

***********************************************

Erik Spoelstra is not a good coach, he is a great and future Hall of Famer as a coach. Miami Heat once they got their full compliment of players healthy, have now won 13 in row and without question are hottest team in the NBA.
