No surprise here, but worth a mention. In 2013-14, the median ticket price on the secondary market for Cleveland Cavalier games was $69.00.

With the NBA schedule just announced, the 2014-15 median price is now $149.00. The "LeBron Impact" will be great for many years to come in the NBA.

Crawford's Sports Biz 59 Seconds, For August 16th, 2014

By Gregory Crawford, COO of Kiyokawa Crawford Sports Management and Sports Business Analyst for TV, Radio and Print.

Interesting to note that not much changes when it comes to the world of TV and NBA. This coming season will be the 13th straight year the NBA Finals will be on ABC. The Eastern Conference Finals will be on TNT and the West on ESPN.

During the season, TNT and its famous pre-game and post-game shows will be on for 19 Thursday night doubleheaders and 52 total games.

With the present NBA TV deal expiring after the 2015-16 season, you can expect during this coming season an announcement on a new, long term TV deal for the NBA and its partners.

By Gregory Crawford---Sports Biz Analyst ----On twitter @wchoops and @crawssportsbiz

Over recent years, the Philadelphia Phillies have been darlings for their fans. With their terrible performance on the field as of late, the team is suffering on the business side.

From 2009-12, the Phillies never had a year where they averaged below 44,000 in average attendance. This year the team is averaging just over 30,000 and as the season winds down, that figure could dip much lower.

The Hanwha Eagles of the Korean baseball league, have found a way to get fans into the park, despite their terrible performance on the field.

They are now using robots in the stands. Fans can connect with the robots from afar, put their face on the robot and act as if they are present. Oh for technology.

College Cost by Jourdyn Thompson

As a student you are told that you need to work hard in school. That's all you hear about from kindergarten until you graduate from college. The problem is when you get to the most important four or five years of your education you have to pay for it. Why are we being told that we need to go to college, but it cost you so much money? Yes you have scholarships and loans, but not everybody can receive that. Should cost of college go down?

Despite not making the NBA Finals once again, the business side of the Oklahoma City Thunder is thriving.

The Thunder have sold out every game since 2011 at home, their TV ratings locally rose 200 percent in the 2013-14 season and at present the Thunder have a waiting list of 4,000 people for season tickets. Would it have been any different in Seattle?

Crawford's Sports Biz 59 Seconds, For May 24th, 2014

By Gregory Crawford, Media Sports Business Analyst

Today, marks the start of a long run  and the return of Crawford's Sports Biz 59 Seconds which will be published each day at this sight. Simple and guaranteed to be read in 59 seconds or less.

As the Los Angeles Clippers situation continues to be in the news, the question begs is how much will the Clippers sell for? My analysis based on sound economics and also how many bidders will be involved, is that the final sale price of the Clippers will be $2.3 billion, the L.A. market is just so strong for sports and a price of this magnitude will be easy to get.

Scott Cross, the head basketball coach at U of Texas Arlington, made some news this week when he tweeted out asking all JUCO, AAU and high school coaches not to ask him to recruit their players who take selfies and post them on social media. Is this a good business policy, or an overreaction to modern day technology.

Crawford's Sports Business Weekend (2/23/2014)

By Gregory Crawford, Sports Business Analyst----on twitter @crawssportsbiz @wchoops

Big In Texas----We all know everything is big in Texas, if you do not believe that just ask any Texan and they will tell you as such. And things are about to get bigger.

Kyle Stadium, home of Texas A&M football will be getting quite the $450 million renovation. First the stadium will be expanded to 102,500 seats, which will then make Texas A&M the largest college football stadium in the state. It does not stop there, at the same time as seat expansion, the Aggies will put in the largest video board in the college football ranks, moving ahead of arch-rival Texas.

The new video board at Texas A&M will measure 55.5 feet high, 134 feet wide.

Daytona 500----With the Daytona 500 completed for the day, some interesting news on ticket prices. You could have got into one of the world's most famous auto races for $50, that is much below a month past where the average ticket price was $232 and much below the past five year average of $210.

Daytona has reduced the number of seats for the race this year to 145,000 full capacity, which is down from 168,000. By 2016 another 45,000 seats will be lopped off, making sellout capacity of the racetrack just over 100.000. Of course the most expensive seats will not be touched and the race officials are gearing future races as more of a fan total experience, by adding many more musical acts on race day and entertainment in the future.

Cheyenne Woods----With recent win by professional golfer Cheyenne Woods, the niece of the most famous athlete in the world, Tiger Woods,  propel her endorsement career? Woods recently has a big win in the Australian Ladies Masters and then backed it up last week with a great showing in the Australian Open.

Women's golf is starved for a key endorser, Woods might just be the ticket. Her current endorsement deal with Nike is for multi-years, but other sponsors are expected to jump on board soon. Cheyenne is much more engaging with fans, than her famous uncle and of course the Woods' name in golf is always going to be huge. This all keeping in mind, it would take Cheyenne 50 years of catching up, to match her uncle's mammoth fortune from endorsements.

Ed O'Bannon----Ed O' Bannon's class action lawsuit against the NCAA, is now cleared to proceed to trial on June 9th. O'Bannon is suing the NCAA over their restrictions of not allowing NCAA athletes to cash in on their likeness, age and image and this case has gotten huge publicity in the four years plus it has been in the news.

It has been 4 1/2 years since O'Bannon filed his suit and the wait will soon be over. The trial, providing their is no settlement prior is expected to be one of the most watched trials in all of sports law and for sure no matter what the verdict will have a major impact on the future of the NCAA and beyond.

Jay Paterno----Jay Paterno insists he is not going to run revenge campaign against people in government who were highly critical of his famous late father Joe Paterno, after the Jerry Sandusky scandal at Penn State.

Jay Paterno has filed the paper work to run for lieutenant governor in Pennsylvania on the Democratic ticket. The Pennsylvania primary in May is expected to dram a minimum of 10 candidates running for the lieutenant governor position.

Since leaving the Penn State football staff in 2011, Paterno has been writing a book and also working hard on his foundation, which is helping eradicate malaria in Africa.

Coming Saturday, March 1st, the debut of an exciting new basketball website, The Alford/ Crawford East West Hoops, which will feature all basketball, all the time, with Philadelphia's own Jovan Alford as senior editor and Portland's own Gregory Crawford as the managing editor. Will the bitter rivalry between Philadelphia and Portland ever since the 1977 NBA finals continue? You will just have to check in everyday. Website, http://eastwesthoops.weebly.com

Derek Jeter will make $12 million in his last year with the Yankees, as he moves towards retirement. He will also make in 2014, just over $10 million from endorsement deals he has with companies such as Avon, Nike and Gatorade. That endorsement figure is expected to at least double in 2015, as Jeter will take on a role of top athlete product endorser after his retirement.

A very reliable source of mine from the advertising industry in New York City, told me this morning she thinks that GoDaddy, Old Spice, SodaStream, Pepsi and Toyota, will get the biggest bang for the buck from their upcoming Super Bowl commercials. The commercials in the past few years have not had the appeal as when it was a hot topic in the 1990s, so perhaps this will be the year of comeback commercials.

The iconic Chicago Bulls of the NBA, have shown an increase in their TV rating so far this year, despite playing many games without their super-star guard Derrick Rose. Ratings are up 3 percent this year, but down slightly from two years past when the Bulls recorded their highest TV ratings since Michael Jordan was on the team.

The Bulls lead the NBA this year in paid attendance, with an average of 21,713, which is 3.8 percent  above the United Center's capacity. A great basketball city.
