A big announcement in the sports business world could come tomorrow or as long as sometime in spring of 2020.
The winner will be who secures the new TV rights to the PGA Tour starting in 2022. At present CBS, NBC and Golf Channel own those rights. While it could be business as usual in 2022, some new/old contenders have entered the bidding including ESPN, Fox and AT&T.
Only one thing is certain, the coveted 4 Majors TV rights are completely separate deals and not in picture here.
Just why is this important.? While golf does not get close to other sports in TV ratings, it is attractive to advertisers for one reason, most golfers have a few extra bucks in their pockets and they spend it.
