|A No-Hit 4th of July,1983|
Today marks the 36th anniversary of the best 4th of July I ever experienced.
On a sweltering 94 degree afternoon in 1983, I joined 40,000 others at Yankee Stadium to witness Dave Righetti throw the first no-hitter at the Stadium in 27 years, the first since Don Larsen's Perfect Game in the 1956 World Series.
It took Righetti 128 pitches, the last one a wicked slider that fanned the best hitter in the AL at the time, Wade Boggs.
That night, I sat on the banks of the East River and watched holiday fireworks light up the New York City skyline.
Fourth of July in America.
Enjoy your day everyone. Especially you, Rags!
